Hand Height Guide

Installation & Use:
Hand Height Guide for Concept 2 Erg

Contents:

  • 2 pieces of clear vinyl with graphics affixed to the back

Installation:

  1. Remove the four bolts, washers, and nuts that hold the chain guide in place on the erg frame.

  2. Slip the outer side of one of the  hand-height guides between the erg frame and the chain guide.

  3. Align the holes of the frame, chain guide and hand height guide.

  4. Re-insert two of the four bolts. Wrap the hand height guide around the front of the chain guide. Slide the other two holes over the bolts on the inside of the chain guide.

  5. Re-install the washers and nuts. Tighten.

  6. Repeat on the opposite side.

Note: On some erg models, the chain guide is a tight fit. To make installation easier, remove the chain guide. Wrap both hand height guides around the left and right side of the chain guide. Align the holes in both guides. Tape the ends of the hand height guides to hold them in place (above picture). Re-insert the guide into the erg frame. Follow Steps 4 to 6.

Use:

  1. After a brief warm-up, have the athlete come to the catch. Put them in the catch position that you desire for your program. Note the location of the chain position next to the guide: A, B, C, or in-between. This is the target for the athlete to maintain during the drive phase of the stroke. The recovery should be slightly lower than the drive phase, but should be level. This is the “margin” the rower should reference on each phase of the stroke.

  2. In case rowers forget their target position, settings can be posted in the erg room or gym. When used with the leg-compression guide, settings will be something like “Jane: B-4” or “John: A-7”
