Leg Compression Guide
Installation & Use:
Leg Compression Guide for Concept 2 Erg
Contents:
1 rubber stop
1 adhesive guide
Installation:
Make sure the front half of the erg’s monorail is clean and dry before you begin.
Temporarily, mark a spot from the front end of the monorail. Small rowers will need the guide placed closer to the front, maybe 6” to 7” away. Large rowers will need it positioned father away, maybe 8” to 9” away. Whatever you decide for your program, be consistent. Use the same setting on all ergs.
Affix the adhesive guide to the monorail. It should be centered, to avoid contact with the seat’s rollers.
Hook one end of the rubber stop around an edge of the monorail. Wrap the other end of the stop around the opposite edge.
Use:
After a brief warm-up, have the athlete come to the catch. Put them in the catch position that you desire for your program. Note the uncovered position on leg-compression guide in front of the seat’s front roller: 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. Have the athlete row and visually confirm the setting while the rower is in motion. Slide the rubber stop to cover this position. This is the target for that rower. If they tend to over-compress, the seat will hit the rubber stop and possibly move it out of position. If they under-compress they will not feel the seat make contact. The objective is to gently tap the guide with the seat’s roller.
The leg-compression guide should be used in warm-up and long, easy rows to build muscle memory and develop correct technique. Do not use the guide during intense interval workouts or 2k tests!
In case rowers forget their target position, settings can be posted in the erg room or gym. When used with the hand-height guide, settings will be something like “Jane: B-4” or “John: A-7”
